Objectives Met -
Principle #1 - Apply foundational knowledge and skills to the collaborative design and use of content, pedagogy and instructional technologies.
Principle #2 – Create conditions for learning by applying theories (eg. learning
theories, curriculum theory and communications theories) to authentic scenarios involving diverse populations.
Principle #3 - Use modern technologies, and techniques (eg. collaborative teamwork and rapid prototyping) to design and develop learning materials, media and environments that promote near and far transfer of content knowledge.
Principle #4 - Design and develop a strategic vision and plan for the implementation, management and evaluation of educational technologies, programs and systems.
Principle #6 - Initiate, lead, facilitate and advocate for positive change and innovation in the educational technology workplace as new technologies, techniques, and theories of learning, design and change emerge.
Description -
This self-created instructional module was developed as part of an asynchronous Content Teaching Academy course for both K-12 and higher education teachers seeking assistance with effective tools and strategies for eLearning. After curating relevant and current research, I used interactive learning strategies to deliver the gamification learning module. Learners immersed themselves in this authentic learning experience designed to specifically teach about the topic of gamified learning, using gamified learning strategies.
Reported in a detailed job aid (based on the ADDIE model), were the needs analysis, the organizations goals/objectives, content analysis, context analysis, design considerations, assessment plan, instructional strategies, media considerations, implementation timeline, and budget plan.
Strategies used throughout the project design:
-
created and posted interactive learning games online using Raptivity and HTML 5;
-
presented interactive simulations to create authentic, gamified learning experiences;
-
designed interactive formative self-evaluative quizzes (drag and drop, multiple choice, sorting);
-
designed and enforced a badge earning system allowing learners to track and earn badges throughout learning experiences;
-
used multi-media tools (iMovie, Camtasia, Screencast-O-Matic) to create and edit self-created videos;
-
used forms of Augmented Reality (AR) to present relevant multi-media content.
